Artist Statement
Visual art is the only way for me to challenge, express and respond to my experiences of living. Being thoughtful and sensitive can cause difficulties dealing with the complexities of this reality. I am compelled to communicate emotional reactions by facilitating each emotion as my art. The metaphorical, symbolic, poetic, and archetypal find their way into my artistic practice through harnessing my subconscious. I approach my materials intuitively, letting the concept of the work dictate the necessary forms it must take.
Despite sounding romantic, I do evoke contemporary art practices and theory into my process. Through presentation, fragmentation and hybridization of conceptual and subconscious impulses I intermingle art history, personal experience, memories and everyday debris from our current times. My work swings from 2nd and 3rd dimensions easily and I adopt traditional and nontraditional processes for each work. I draw upon surrealism, post-modernism and the uncertainty of our perceptions. These issues heavily inform my artistic process.
